Nothing is more important to National Badminton than the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in our sport — children, young people, adults at risk, coaches, staff and volunteers.

Our approach
National Badminton is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk who take part in our programmes and activities. We work in line with Badminton England’s safeguarding standards and expect everyone connected with our venues, programmes and activities to share that commitment.
Badminton England’s A Sport That Cares standards set the framework we operate within — strong governance, a positive culture, well-supported volunteers, and safe, enjoyable environments for everyone who plays.
Report a Safeguarding Concern
If you have a concern about the welfare of a child, young person or adult at risk, please don’t keep it to yourself. Every concern will be taken seriously and handled with care and confidentiality.
If someone is in immediate danger or a crime is in progress, always contact the police first. If you need to take this action in an emergency, please tell us as soon as possible afterwards.

Our Commitment
- All coaches, staff and volunteers working with children hold a valid enhanced DBS check and complete safeguarding training in line with Badminton England guidelines.
- Our coaches hold Badminton England Coach Membership, which includes a DBS check renewed every three years alongside a valid Coach Licence.
- We appoint a named Welfare Officer as the first point of contact for any safeguarding or welfare concern.
- We take all safeguarding concerns seriously and handle them with appropriate care and confidentiality.
- Safeguarding is a standing agenda item in our operations team meetings.
- Our policies are reviewed at least every two years by the Welfare Officer, in line with Badminton England guidance, and sooner if legislation or statutory guidance changes.
